Annual General Meeting 2026

For 50 years, The Wilderness Society has taken the bold actions necessary to protect the places, and wildlife, Australians love. From the Franklin River to the Daintree rainforest, the Great Australian Bight, Jabiluka, Ningaloo, Barrington Tops and the Otways, so much irreplaceable land and sea Country has stayed wild because of the work of the people.

This is where the true legacy of your Wilderness Society lies: not just in the large, intact areas of land and sea that have been protected for future generations, but in the hundreds of thousands of people who made it all possible. People like you.

Every day we work to fulfil our Purpose of protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth. As a Member, you are a vital part of a broader movement making this happen.

The Wilderness Society Ltd 2026 Annual General Meeting

The Wilderness Society Ltd Notice of 2026 Election and Annual General Meeting

As a Member, you are a vital part of this organisation. For 50 years, our Members have provided the ongoing support we need to protect wild places and all the wildlife that calls them home.

Each year, Members participate in the election of our Board of Directors. And now is your opportunity to participate in our Director election process and attend our 2026 Annual General Meeting. The nomination and election processes are designed to promote broad geographic representation and Elected Directors must come from at least four of the following six regions: Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales; Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; Victoria; and Western Australia.

This year the Elected Directors who will be retiring are Andrew Barker from Victoria, and Bill Doyle from the SA/NT region - with both Andrew and Bill eligible to renominate. With a Casual Vacancy for the region of Victoria due to Lisa Roberts’ earlier Director resignation in 2026, resulting in three positions open for election. Directors may be elected from any of the six regions listed above.

In 2026, the Board is looking for individuals with particular skills and experience in law, governance and/or advocacy to nominate for election. Completion of the AICD Director training modules and/or AICD membership is desirable.

An inclusive and representative Board is necessary to increase our reach to all Australians. We encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply. Diversity includes gender, LGBTQI+, age, First Nations people, persons from different cultures/religions and differing physical abilities (including neuro-diversity). Geo-diversity is also important and people from regional Australia are encouraged to nominate for election.

The Wilderness Society is calling for nominations from Members for the position of Elected Director.  A nominations package will be provided for interested Members outlining details on the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the Board of Directors. If, as a Member, you are interested in serving on our Board to further The Wilderness Society’s Purpose, please contact [email protected] or call 1800 030 641 for nomination details. Members expressing interest will have the opportunity to discuss expectations and suitability with the Board’s Nominations Panel before nominating.

Nominations are open from 9am AEST Wednesday, 16 September, closing at 5pm AEDT Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

The Wilderness Society Ltd 2026 Annual General Meeting will be held at 6:30pm AEDT on Wednesday, 25 November - further meeting details will be shared with Members shortly.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support as a Member and to encourage you to participate as a candidate in our 2023 Director election process.

Yours for nature,
Bettina Pidcock
Company Secretary

NOTE: If, as a Member you would like to bring a resolution to a General Meeting the process for doing so is outlined in Members Resolutions to TWS Ltd General Meetings
