Suggested Wording for your Will
We’re so grateful that you’re considering including the Wilderness Society in your Will.
To make it as simple as possible, below is some suggested wording for your Will. We recommend you take this information with you when you visit your solicitor to draft or update your Will.
‘I bequeath to the Wilderness Society LTD (ABN: 18 611 229 086 | ACN: 611 229 086) The residuary of my entire estate.
— OR—
. . . . . . . . . percent of the residue of my estate.
— OR—
The sum of $ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . for the purpose of fostering and restoring wilderness in Australia free of all duties and the receipt of Secretary of either authorised officer for the time being shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s).’
How to amend an existing Will
If you have already written your Will, the easiest way to make a gift to the Wilderness Society is to add a codicil—a short legal amendment—to your Will.
This can be organised with a phone call or email to your solicitor, followed by a visit to their office to finalise the amendment and sign the codicil.
Never change your Will by simply crossing something out and writing something different. This includes changes to names and addresses.
Keep your Will up to date
You should review your Will at least every few years to ensure that any major changes in your financial and personal circumstances are accurate and that it still reflects your wishes. For example, there may be a change in your relationship such as marriage or divorce, or a death of a beneficiary.
